If you have not decided which school you want to attend, apply to your top 5-7 schools and get your applications done early. Know your deadlines and where to find the applications. (Be aware of supplemental applications that may be required by the school for a particular major or honors program when applying using the Common Application.)
If your applications require letters of recommendation, ask for them early. Remember to provide your guidance counselor, teacher, or coach with your updated Student-Athlete Profile so he/she is aware of the full scope of your academics, athletics and activities. Thank them for their assistance!
Communicate with the college coaches to let them know when you have submitted your application.
Continue to compete in high visibility tournaments/events.
Work with your coach and your guidance counselor if you need help making a final decision.
FINANCIAL AID (Begins in October)
Attend a PPS Financial Aid presentation so you can learn about the various forms of financial aid and scholarships.
Visit the CCC at Cleveland to stay on track and learn about additional scholarships. Note: Legitimate scholarship opportunities are FREE. You should never pay to apply for scholarships.
If you are looking for additional scholarship money and know you are being offered athletic scholarship aid (partial or full), make sure the additional scholarships do not consider athletic achievement as a factor for receiving the scholarships. All additional scholarships will have to be reported to your college's financial aid office to avoid any conflict.
DECIDE & COMMIT
Evaluate financial aid, grants, academic scholarships, athletic scholarship, and how they are being applied. Use this financial aid worksheet to assist.
Make sure you have applied for scholarships through your high school.
Make a final decision based on financial and academic fit.
