WUE
Western Undergraduate Exchange
What is WUE?
WUE (pronounced “woo-wee”) is the Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE), an agreement among 16 member states and territories, through which participating public colleges and universities provide nonresident tuition savings for Oregon students. With WUE, eligible students can choose from hundreds of undergraduate programs outside their home state, and pay no more than 150 percent of that institution’s resident tuition rate.
What states participate in WUE?
Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, Wyoming, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. Click links for a map and a list of participating institutions. Use the WUE Online Database to search for schools and find out which programs are available at the discounted WUE rate.
Am I eligible for WUE tuition?
To be eligible for WUE, students must be a resident of a participating state. Your residency alone is does not guarantee you the WUE rate. Some colleges and universities have additional criteria such as ACT/SAT test scores or high school GPA. The WUE reduced tuition rate is not automatically awarded to all eligible candidates. Many institutions limit the number of new WUE awards each academic year, so apply early! Consult each institution’s profile for admissions requirements and application deadlines.
How do I apply for WUE tuition?
Apply for admission directly to the WUE institution(s) of your choice. There is no general WUE application. For online applications, check the WUE box. If there is not one provided, contact the school admissions office on how to apply for WUE.
How can I find out more?
Watch 15 admissions counselors from a variety of Western universities present a webinar on WUE at these institutions. This is a great opportunity to explore a lot of affordable out-of-state options all at once.
